Preston High School Reviews

My daughter is finishing her freshman year at Preston High School. Great school for girls. The girls are super friendly, very smart, athletic, and the school has a great school spirit. Lots of home work, lots of clubs, lots of activities. The teachers and prinicipal are caring. They make sure that every girl is on the right track. My daughter whistles all the way to school everyday. I am sure she is in the right school for her. She is very happy and that makes me very happy too.

I am a current student at Preston and I feel that Preston is a great school and is filled with opportunities. At Preston, not only is the academics important but they value building your own character and developing skills that are required to have a leadership role. There are many extra-curricular activities going on, such as heritage clubs, art club, yearbook, newspaper, & many more! Preston has three levels of courses: Regents,Honors, as well as AP. Teachers are always available after school or during study periods if you are in need of help or just would like to review something. Although at times the homework may seem like a lot, you have two days to complete it and it is very beneficial and gives you a better understanding of the lesson. Also, there is a lot of parent-teacher communication, as well as unity throughout the students in PHS.

this school is not as great as i thought it would be. i am very disappointed because to my surprise there is no air condition and it is very hard to grasp what you are learning because all of the teachers move very fast. many of the girls first starting this school wish they would have chose another school because they do not enjoy the amount of work they have to do on the summer vacation when they compare it to their friends about to attend other schools. i believe it could be better!!!!

this school is great in academics. It is sophisticated and one of the top schools in the bronx

This is a small, catholic all gir school with beautiful grounds. I would recommend it better than any public school here.

Students are taught to respect themselves as well as others in a Christian, womenly manner. Integrity, leadership and good morals are key factors and are taken very seriously. Class sizes are generally small and adequate. The faculty is qualified, making sure to help every girl who comes to them for help, and all have efficient degrees. However, the distinguish between Honors and Regents classes is unnecessary. Some girls in Regents classes deserve to be promoted and are not given the chance to challenge themselves in a Honors class. Most transfer students who come from generally exceptonal high schools and have an overall A average are given that opportunity from the start. However, those who come from high schools that ar not considered as challenging in Preston's eye and have an overall A average are not given the same opportunity. Exclusive electives are only offered to those who are 'smart' enough to be admitted, instead of those who have a true passion for the subject. With that passion and natural inner-drive, it is almost inevitable that the student will push themselves as hard as possible to maintain a decent grade in the class. Therefore, because of how their curriculum is set up, Preston girls tend to focus on grades, averages, and rankings, instead of a sincere love and curiousity for each subject, knowing that along with their unquenchable thirst comes zeal, and with zeal, good grades. In addition, not enough is done about short skirts. The skirt length can be at times ridiculous, and in some cases offensive.

As a parent of a daughter attending Preston, I must say that I thought the school would provide better leadership,a higher degree of professionalism, and better education. My daughter had a difficult time during her first semester at Preston and on her first evaluation (progress report) six teachers all had something negative to say instead of something positive to motivate and encourage my daughter. I spoke to the teachers on my own hoping that it would shed some light on how to motivate and encourage new students. For the tuition charged (which I believe is totally outrageous) plus charging each year for books (approximately $300), I should not have to explain to teachers how to motivate and encourage their students. I kept my daughter in Presenton because neighborhood schools were not good and Preston used this to their advantage by raising their tuition each and every year.

Preston is by NO means one of the highest priced schools through-out NYC. You do realize some private schools are more than $20,000.00 per year. At that rate PHS is a bargain. I believe it is a quality college prep school. It is a small school where most of the administration and faculty know each student. My daughter will go through the college application process this year and I hope that she does not encounter any problems.

Preston is a high-quality college preparatory school. The education is top notch, faculty, for the most part, are excellent. If a student is having trouble in a class, teachers are always available to tutor either before or after school. Most of the teachers/staff also attend after school activities and sports events. My major complaint is that the homework can be overwhelming (I do not agree with the hours of homework). Girls should get involved in extra-curricular activties. This is so important to help the girls develope into well-rounded individuals. They make more friends and tend to enjoy school more! Preston is a very close knit community - parents, students, faculty and staff. I have a daughter that graduated and one attending. My graduate is definately ready for college!

School is high quality, but students must make sure that their records & admission applications to universities & colleges are properly forwarded in a timely matter...this was not done in an efficient manner for the graduating class of 2003. This was reported to the principal & hopefully has been taken care of by replacement of the responsible(?) person so this doesn't happen again in the future. This school is probably the highest costing girl's school thruout NYC.
