Cardinal Spellman High School Reviews

I am extremely pleased with this school. The teachers are very dedicated and do everything they can to help each child succeed. The school itself is beautiful, and there are plenty of clubs and activities available. This high school's students go on to college, many of them with full and partial scholarships. I am very happy that my daughter chose to go to Spellman.

I'm in 8th grade now & i cant wait to go to Spellman next year! I've heard nothing but fabulous things and I cant wait !

I love this school so much ! It's the best high school around , but very hard to get into . If your child isn't average or above average [85+average] , then don't even waste your time applying to this school . One of my children did acceptionally well on the TACHS test , but he had an 80 average and he did not make it. On the other hand , my daughter had a 98 average and she got a scholarship to this school . If your child is smart , they will make it into this school. - A Spellman parent

This school is the best of all High Schools in the Bronx. It is the most well rounded and diverse school. The quality of the education is the that I have seen. This school should cost more than it asks for because in reality there is no other school like this in the Bronx. This school prepares students for the real world, with it's diverse student body. there are a a lot of white, asian, black, and hispanic students. The school prepares you well for college, every year students are going to the best schools including,Harvard,Yale,Cornell,Columbia, and more of the others, just go to tothe website. Send your kids to Cardinal Spellman , and note the diffrence in a private education.

One of the better Parochial schools in the Bronx. Discipline was focused upon. Sufficient extracurricular activities but sports teams are not competitive.

Excellent school, The teachers there really care about the students. Great private education

Spellman provided a well rounded, disciplined Catholic school eduction. I found a diverse student body with forwarding thinking programs such as TV Production. Most students go on to higher education. Great school spirit and sports teams. It was a hard commute from my part of the Bronx however.

Still is The school to get accepted to. It is amazing that as the ethnicity of the neighborhood changes and the student population does as well, Cardinal Spellman still achieves one of the highest positive outputs in their graduating class.

20 years ago when I graduated at went to college, I immediately recognized the superior education I received from Cardinal Spellman. Last year my baby sister started her high school career at Spellman and I was presently suprised to find out that after all these years the high standards are still being maintained. There is a great school spirit and strong alumni participation. Many of the faculty are alumni also. There is a high level of care and concern for the continued growth of the school, well being of the students, and strict enforcement of high academic standards. I have fond memories of my high school days and the exceptional education I received allowed me to have a very successful college and professional career. It is still one of the best High Schools in the Bronx.

My daughter is a freshman at Cardinal Spellman she loves it, there is so much to do there, and the school is very clean and organized, I would recommend that parents send there kids to Cardinal Spellman

As a former student, I agree with several things previously written. The overall quality of the school and its teachers are the best!! However, there is a weakness in the Math Dept. I believe Math is difficult enough in high school, so the Math teachers must really know how to get concepts across well. The Guidance Dept. was weak as well. I believe guidance councellors should be involved with disciplinary action. Overall, my education at Spellman was A#1 and prepared me well for college.

Instead of teaching discipline and respect, students are trained to avoid deans out of fear. Disciplinary problems are 'solved' by dealing out weeks of detention. Over time, the students take it as a given that they will have detention every day, and break rules without fear. Fear and punishment are used instead of guidance. Educationaly, this school is abysmal. After the teachers went on strike for several months, I was forced to withdraw my daughter when the work was not being made up in class, they were still on chapter 1 in pre-cal by February!

The school is consistently one of the best in the borough and provides students with a well-rounded education. Cardinal Spellman does an excellent job of preparing student for college and the real world. With regard to a comment by a parent about a student giving birth in the school: as tragic as that was, I believe the school acted appropriately. To divulge that a minor gave birth to the entire student body would have been inappropriate, an invasion of privacy and illegal.

This was the best four years of my life. They offer so many extracurricular activities and the teachers go the extra mile thats how great they are. Safety was never an issue, They mafe sure all the students were very well taken care of.

Spellman is a great school! My child is going into her second year there as an honor roll student. The staff push the kids to strive for more & to work harder to achive success! There spiritual leadership is wonderful also. My daughter is thrilled with Spellman if she is happy & making the grade I am also.

My daughter attends this school and has maintained a 96 average since she was a freshman and is now a Junior. The teachers in this school are remarkable and are extremely successful in interesting their students in their schoolwork and creating more knowledge about college. Cardinal Spellman High School is THE best!

Cardinal Spellman lacks decent math teachers. The failure rate on the June 2003 Math A Regents exam was extremely disappointing. These students should be excused from re-taking this exam, because they cannot be properly prepared for it due to bad teachers. Also, Cardinal Spellman has a reputation for being a great Roman Catholic high school. However, a student gave birth in the school. School administrators failed to inform the student body of this. They failed to encourage students to pray for the student and her child. I consider this hypocrisy.
