Bronx Lighthouse Charter School Reviews

I am extremely happy my daughter is attending this school. It has only been almost a month that she has been attending and already she has learned alot. Their way of teaching is just right and age appropriate. They expect alot from the child but not to the point where it is overwhelming. The school is bright and colorful and very welcoming.

This is the first time my child attend this school and so far I love it, The thing I love the most is when I drop of and pick up my daughter I watch and observed how much love I see from parents and kids and staff I hope this continue.

I am so happy that my daughter got in to this school last year. I had been applying for two years. The staff is open and friendly and they really care about the kids. It's definitely a safe place because they're pretty strict with discipline. I also like the focus on college. My daughter is already excited to about college and she works harder than she ever did at any other school. Her grades have never been so good! And she loves going to school now which she never did at her last schools. I think they ask a lot of the kids and us the parents, but its for a good reason. I definitely recommend the Lighthouse!

The school refuses to listen to anything that parents have to say and would not allow us to form a PTA. They instead put up a little suggestion box and told us to utilize it. There is more attention paid to what color belt a child has on rather than whether he/she is excelling academically. Not the best environment for children to learn in. Parents Beware cause in

I finly found the school for my child. Everyone here really cares and makes sure my son does real well. The school is very calm and clean.

I like this school because my child is learning at a exellent pace, and is doing very well, he's above average in his math and he is reading at his grade level. but i have to agree with one of the parents comments on this page, i also feel this school is being run like a milatary, my son liked being there the first year now they are so hard on him that now he doen't even want to go to school at times and askes me can he stay home. 'and there's not much parent involvement?' if the staff there would stop making the parents feel like they are not wanted in the building unless the parent's are voletering, maybe more parents would be involved. and some teachers not all, act like they have no time to talk to you, 'unless u have an appointment'. this is not correct.

I think Bronx Lighthouse is a wonderful school, they show students about responsibility, what they need to accomplish in life. My son came from PS48 with such a low average in reading and math and now his math has improve incredible. thank BCS for being part of my childrens education.

Let me first start by saying: i liked blcs - the whole smaller-group-family-orientated-school-thing is an excellent idea but, somehow the message was lost. When did we start to teach our children with 'humility' instead of understanding and patience? What happened to teaching a child because you want to and love to? Even if you're just a staff member in a school, you're still a 'teacher' to a child. There are some staff members in blcs that don't even like being there. Don't get me wrong, they put up a good front but, when they're asked to do something out of their job description, their true colors start to show. I'm not trying to discredit them...I'm just telling you why I may be taking my daughter out of the school.

With the admission of the new Dean Mr. Ben Phillips and Principal Mr. Jeffrey Tsang, the school is run more like a military academy than an elementary school. Parental involvement is not minimal it is nonexistent. Their is room for much improvement in this school.

What i like about this school is that it is a family atmoshpere. Everyone is polite, they care what goes on with your child. My dauthter is one of the first child to attend since they open in sept 2004. As far as i'm concern my daughter has progress alot and i will not remove her from this school. I look forward to see her graduate from this school. In sept of 2006 they will finally have their own building.
