St. Lucy School Reviews

Very Very poor leadership quality shown by the principal. The classes are way to large and yet they are letting teachers go. Odd, because they are always asking for more and more money. It is very true all the teachers do is gossip gossip gossip. I would think twice before sending your child to this school.

this school is really bad they cures they do anything and dont care the priciple dont care about the school my child entered there then the teacher was fighting him [[he has porn on his phone. I sent them to st.helena's and now he is more educated and happier he is doing good with his grades now and in honors but then he came to st helena he knew nothing that just helped me kno that they were teaching them p-k - 5th and the middle school had nothing to do just reteached was they did before

I love this school soooo very much! Though it has some flaws, it doesn't mean it is the worst school on earth. The teachers are strict and at the same time kind, and I know they give us work and punish us to teach us a lesson. The only more I can say, is that you should try St. Lucy's School out,its great.

On the outside, the school seems incredibly advanced with its technology and access to the teachers & principal through email, but in the inside, it runs like its archaic predecessors of years ago. The requirement of a building fee, general fee, registration fee, application fee, church donation fee, and first tuition runs to almost $2,000 and that is before the year begins. The money you pay for this school is not worth the hassels encountered. The same teachers go year after year with complaints & nothing is ever done. The early childhood center and first grades are the powerhouses of the school & have the best teachers, but after the first grade, there is no reason to keep your child there. My children are now in public school and are much better for it.

Over the years, SLS has gone down in discipline and leadership. The person leading the school should still be leading kindergarden. She has no leadership qualities and the school is continually deteriorating under her leadership. I wish Dr. Mutarelli would reinsate his position as principal. we are all aware that the Catholic schools stay open partially because of money they receive, but this is appalling!! Every time you turn around they are asking for more money. If parents are paying so much money, then their children should get the appropriate guidance they need. There are only few good teachers in SLS especially Mrs. Brent, Mrs. Mascia, Mrs. McGrath, Ms. Maruri and Mrs. Yee.

The academics of the middle grades is still good.

Over the years, St. Lucy's has lost its academic edge and has decreased in quality. Many of the inexperienced teachers need to improve their interpersonal skills when dealing with a parent. You cannot perceive parents as adversaries; they are co-partners, co-teachers in the education of their children. Teachers need to be more responsive and kinder to parents who are struggling with the academic abilities of their children. Finally, this is one expensive school and it shouldn't be unaffordable for children to be educated in a Catholic school environment. I would not be able to afford this school if I had several children. One of the weak links in this school is ela; students do not read nor write enough. There has to be a writing-across-the-curriculum philosophy to get kids to read and write otherwise they will suffer when they move on to high school. Programs and specials have been sliced! Not good!

SLS is the best school my children have ever been in. They're happy, love SLS and their teachers. The teachers are educated, well trained and challenge my children. The principal and teachers are always willing and available to talk. SLS asks for money, but all schools do. The tuition is just as much as any other Catholic school, but at least SLS does a wonderful job. I know SLS helps out the parents that need financial help. Thank you, SLS, for all that you do!

I have attended this school for about 4 years and honestly me and my parents agree it is a mistake. St.Lucys is full of pointless rules. And they are always asking for money. My advice..Stay in public, you actually learn.

I have 2 children in this school. The Early Childhood Center was fantastic for my daughter who has excelled tremendously in the first grade. My son however,(now in 8th grade) has suffered substantially since last year. The children are not academically challenged as they should be. Also the school is always asking for money. Nothing is free, not even Mass.

I have three children in the school and they are all very happy. My children take advantage of the wonderful after-school program and are also involved in many of the activities including the band, drama club, homework club, and they also attend the school dances and gym nights. The computer lab is incredible with flat screens and programs and the Early Childhood Center has the best program I have seen in the Catholic School system. Parent input is encouraged & teachers respond to parents immediately. The only downside is that there is no formal parent organization or PTA, but the principal does her best to keep all parents involved. SLS is definitely a great choice!

I am a new parent to the school this year. When I was research for a school, I heard very good things about St. Lucy, but after a few months into the school year, I was disappointed. In the morning there is no school supervision until after 7:30 and when there are faculty present, there are only about two to watch the entire school. The students are not separated by grade so all the little kids are mixed up with the older kids. Even on bad weather when the students are inside the school, the students are still not supervised, which can lead to problems.

Religion is the MOST important subject in the school. I personally disagree with this. I believe reading and math are the most important subjects to be taught. Religion is important too but they don t need it as much as reading and math. My son hardly gets reading assignments. When he used to be in public school he was doing much better that now. He used to get books every week and read at home for 20 minutes (a card was provided to keep track of his reading). In this school, they read the books in class. From time to time, they get book reports but not that many. Also, if you intend to be part of the parish, guess what? They will force you to go to church every Sunday. After mass is over, you must take your card to the priest so he can sign it. Mass is over 1-1/2h.

They are very well aware of their popularity due to the Grotto. Hence their tuition rates with no finanical aid offered. The school staff is full of ego, not certified, and the student/teacher ratio is poor. Teachers are overwhelmed, inexperienced, overworked, and have difficultly keeping up with curriculum standards. Teachers are also very standoffish for parents if you want to discuss grades or your child's performance. I wouldn't recommend this school AT ALL.

This school overall is very good. The academics are excellent and both my children have been going to this school since pre-k. They have both excelled in this school. One bad thing about this school is that it is always asking for money for one thing or another. They have implemented a new family one time $300 building pledge fee (to repair the school). I have asked around, no other school in this area does this. They have lost a lot of families due to this and the fact that they are always asking for more money. Overall the education outweighs the excessive monetary requests.
