Immaculate Conception School Reviews

Excellent teachers in a warm, caring community. Lovely location in Irvington-on-Hudson. Looking forward to a change in administration

ICS is an excellent learning environment for my children. The academics are challenging and consistent from grade to grade. The parents and teachers are involved together to educate the children in a Christian environment. There is a strong CYO program, music program, art program and Spanish every year starting in preK. This is a school looking for families that want the best well rounded experience for their children. At ICS my children were taught not only to excel academically, but to excel as good citizens. And they do! What more could I want?

My rating of this school I based on averages. Some teachers at this school I find to be exceptional and other, though teach well, have issues with spending extra time to help kids as they complain about this in meetings that it is an over burden to do this. Don't get me started on the Principal. Honestly, I feel he needs to be removed.

Immaculate Conception School is the place for you. The faculty and staff care greatly for each and every student. We are like one big happy family. We strive to make our students succeed to the best of their individual abilities. We offer a very academic program that encourages higher order thinking, provides challenges and allows students the opportunity to learn and work using a learning style that works best for them. We will do whatever it takes to make every student feel like they belong and that they are one of the reasons our school is the best it can be. Come check us out. You won't be disappointed!

I feel the school does well in teaching academics, but it lacks continuincy as far as the next grade following what the prior grade teacher did. Each teacher does their own thing. The school also lacks other interest for the children. They have a 'gym' room which is more of a multipurpose room, from assembly to lunch, art, music, meetings. Also the students do not receive proper physical ed, its only gym. The school lacks the finances to produce further activities like public schools do. Some classes have too many students where as others have too little for the students to have enough social interaction within their age.

Excellent school, held to high standards by a wonderfull and dedicated top notch faculty. One of the finest schools in the area. Their students love learning here!

Parents are too involved and run the school

I loved it here. It is like a big family.

My brother and I attended this school from K thru 8, and now I have the special opprotunity of having my child attend the school over 20 years later!!! It is still a GREAT SCHOOL that CARES for your child. My daughter can almost read and she is in her first year of PRE-K. The new principle has a take charge attitude and will help make the school that much better. If you have questions for a parent at ICS I'd be happy to reply. swillz28@optonline.net

Immaculate Conception School (ICS) is a fabulous school. As an educator specializing in the education of Gifted and Talented students, as well as a mentor/supervisor of new teachers for the NYC Board of Education, I was extremely thorough in my research for a school for my own children. After visiting and researching many many schools in Westchester and NYC, I decided to enroll my children in ICS. ICS offered a well rounded and well balanced curriculum for my children that would provided them with solid instruction in the basics as well the opportunity for creative, exciting and interesting educational experiences. The teachers at ICS truly care about both the child's intellectual and emotional quotient. The children in the school have a fabulous enviroment to learn in at the school. The new principal at the school has brought many new ideas and projects to the school that will only enrich it further.

For me ICS stands for Independence, Confidence and Scholarship- qualities that I have seen develop in my children over the past 10 years. There is a close student/ faculty ratio coupled with a healthy focus on christian values and ethics. A winning combination!

The Pre-Kindergarten at Immacualte Conception School is a Montessori based program which includes Montessori materials, phonics and math. Our curriculum includes a computer program, social studies, science,Spanish, art, gym and music. Our staff consists of four, a teacher and three assistants. Our program offers both half and full day sessions with a total enrollment of 47. The largest number of students at one time is 30. Our Pre-K is a seperately housed facility with 5 large teaching rooms. The children are divided into groups of six to eight in a given area at one time. This allows ample opportunity for one-on-one instruction. Most students are able to read, add, and subtract by the time they graduate and are ready for kindergarten. -Mrs. S. Gualtieri, Pre-K Teacher

ICS is the best bang for yor buck in westchester-more like a prep school than parochial-yet with strong catholic values, traditional teaching, and nurturing environment.

Our careful evaluation of all local schools included going to open houses, meeting with teachers, principals and speaking with parents. After four years, we feel without question that we made the best choice in sending our children to Immaculate Conception in Irvington, NY. Their dedicated faculty is committed to teaching the core academics while still focusing on each student individually - a benefit of small class sizes. Unique to ICS, extra attention is not only offered to those who would benefit from advanced academic instruction. As parents we have found that Immaculate Conception offers by far a superior education i Westchester. Local schools will state that, 'they are the best'. From our experience we have found first hand that ICS in Irvington really is the best. It is the smartest investment you can make in your children. A wonderful school with a dynamo for a principal (Mr. Victor Presto!)

This is my 11th year as a parent at ICS and the school keeps getting better and better. Both my daughters have greatly benefited from the small class sizes, experienced teachers, caring environment and most importantly strong academics. The parents are involved and welcomed. I have compared ICS to many other Catholic schools and have yet to find a more impressive school. Choosing the best school for your child is the most important decison we are faced with and ICS is the best choice.

My daughter is in the pre-k program at ICS and it is OK. It seems more like a day care operation. Classes are crowded boardering on overcrowded. Teacher has too many kids to focus on individual needs. Kids do not get to go outside. Catholic values are great and resonate throughout. The school does have a sense of community and belonging. No discipline of parents to arrive on time!

My son attended ICS for 8 years and he, as well as my husband and I, had a wonderful experience. The school is small and nurturing, the teachers excellent, and the parents I met are life long friends. If you are looking for a school with a strong academic curriculum and a warm, caring environment, I would highly recommend ICS.

This starts my 12th school year as a parent at ICS. Both of my children have benefited from the Montessori Philosophy in the pre - K and K classes - not only from an educational point of view but from a values standpoint. The teacher/student ratio is fantastic. Accelerated classes in math and reading have also benefited my children. The Faculty is warm, dedicated and outstanding. There is a family kind of atmosphere at ICS that makes it very special.

It's my 3rd year at ICS! The teachers are great. The school offers montessori in Pre-K, K, and some in 1st grade. After 1st your child can be accellerated to the next grade in English and Math (a great opportunity for your child to be ahead of the curve). The small class sizes enable teachers to concentrate more on teaching than controlling the classes' behavior. There is much parental involvement and it is welcomed by the principal right on down to the Parent Teacher Organization. It's a great place for your child to spend 6 hours.
