St. Anselm School Reviews

I love the teachers, but dislike the principal. My daughter has never been on a school field trip, there is no opportunities for parents to voice there opinion on many issues that parents should have because we pay plenty of money for our kids education. We are paying to improve the school and not our kids future. I'm very please to say that next year will be my daughters last year.

I love the school! My daughter has done her first year and has learned more in kindergarten then I expected, the teacher Ms. Poochie is great!!. But>>>> there is infact little parential involment. The school does not offer meetings for parents to become involved or voice thier oppinions (which makes me uncomfortable especially since we pay for our childrens education), aside for the orientations at the beginning of the school year. I would love to work with the school in this matter, because I feel there should be more parent involvement (and meeting updates for parents with long work hours). Still love the school but am uncomfortable with the lack of parent involvement the school offers to us.

My son just started this month at St. Anselm. He was attending PS 5 nearby. I wanted a more structured environment. So far my son loves it!!! He has adjusted very well and the other students are very welcoming. I highly recommend it!!!

My daughter first school year was at Sain Anselm, and I loved it. Mrs Caban is a great teacher, I read the previous reviews and almost everybody complains of have a negative comment about Mrs Lopes, the principal, but I had a great experience with her when my daughter didn't want to stay the first days, the principal was very helpfull and very understanding. My daughter is going to attend another school the upcomming school year, but its all because of the distance.

I used to go to this school and I loved it. It is in such a friendly enviorment and I was accepted by all. The principle really cares about every individual and they all get the same amount of attention.

I love it, my 5 years old go there for second year (pre k and now kindergarden) and they have great teachers, but I wish they have more extra activieties for kids, like ballet or sports.

I think St.Anselms school is a great school. My daugther has great grades. Not too many activites. Very discipline, principal leadership is great. The only reason I am changing my daugther from school is because we are moving.

My children have attended this school for the past 5 years. I am definetely taking them out this coming year. There are no extra curricular activities for the children and the few that they have the children are only allowed to join one. Needless to say the afterschool program is considered and extra curricular activity, it also considered to be a mandatory donation of $100 per child. The principal is very strict, children are not even allowed to speak during lunch. There is always a fee to join a club one way or the other whether is monthly or annually. Nothing is ever free for these children in this school. There is even a cover charge to see a school play at the door! The teachers I are great but I have noticed are very intimated by the principal, which is not good when in need of academic help for your

St. Anselm is a great school. My daughter has been there since PreK and is now in the eight grade. The school needs more field trips in order to expose the children to other activities. Museum of Natural History is a good start. The principal can be a challenge, she is strict which is good but does not focus on being more sympathetic to the children and parents. Meetings are held monthly at 10 am, we are paying for our childrens education, therefore we have to work so the meetings should be in the evening. Don't you think that makes more sense, if the goal is to have parents involved in their childs education.

Compared to other schools in the South Bronx, the school is great, but I believe the children who attend St. Anselm are missing out on many other important things. My daughter has been attending this school for three years and not once has she gone on a field trip. I think the principal focuses too much on academics and not at all on extracurricular activities. It is also sad to see that the students, school staff and even parents are scared of the principal.

The school is good but when it comes down to speaking to the principal about a certain problem it's a no win situation. In her eyes, it's all about schools policy, it is what it is, I felt like my feelings or opinions did not matter. I chose the school so deal with it. It should not be that way. Principles should work with parents especially when I am involved in my child's education. It's sad to see Teachers are scared of this principle. From the looks of it, I think my child will be attending another school next year.

My children attend this school. The Teachers are great! Love Ms. Caban. We've been through four Gym teachers in two years. We lost many good new teachers. The school definitely lacks parent involved! School needs a new Principal!

My daughter attends this school which was a first choice due the long list of relatives that have attended St.Anselm.My sister who's 28 attended & so did my oldest niece who's 22 now.I live more than 10 miles from the school but I make the effort to travel because it's such a great school. My daughter started Pre-K and I was impressed when my daughter graduated from Pre-K & she knew how to tie her shoes(at 4yrs old).I have friends with kids my daughters age & they are not advanced as she is.The tuition is more than reasonable, the teachers & staff are great, the quality of education gets an A+ from me.I would like to see more extra curriculum activities available but I think that the school needs more parental involvement as well as more funding to make things happen.

I am a St. Anselm School alum and current undergradute student at a great university. I thank my success in part to the dedication of many great teachers at St. Anselm. It serves as a great beam of home in the heart of the South Bronx. St. Anselm taught me the importance of my education by with its rewards system for those who seek to excel. I highly recommend it to all.

This is my daughter's first year in St. Anselm as a 4th grader, so far she is happy with her teacher and classmates. P.S.I had her transfer from a another school on a friends referral.

My son went to the school, now my daughter is entering the 5th grade in the same school. I love it. I can not say a bad thing about this school. The education they recieve and the attention they get from there teachers are great. I can't wait from my baby to start school and she will be attending St. Anselm next school year. I recommend St. Anselm School to everyone and anyone I speak to.
